on the presidential cam pains. particularly in some key swing states. both vice president joe biden and mitt romney have cancelled campaign rallies in virginia beach that were scheduled for this weekend. the obama campaign says biden's schedule was changed so police and emergency crews could stay focused on helping people with that storm. first lady michelle obama as well cancelled a campaign rally. this was in another critical swing state, in new hampshire. it was scheduled for next week in durham, but that campus is closing for that storm. sandy's political ramifications don't stop there either. take a look at this picture that we put together for you. it shows some of the campaign layers hitting the east coast. as we mentioned, campaign events across the country being delayed or cancelled already. we've told you to expect huge travel delays as well. alexandria just mentioned that. in addition to impacting millions of travelers, though, the campaigns may have to make some last-minute maneuvering themselves. and finally, a major storm hitting the most densely populated section of the country, coul

christie. with that bipartisan blessing, the president looks good. for mitt romney, he was pushed off the stage. this storm was a kind of circuit breaker for about three days. momentum, at least according to the romney camp, had been building up for romney. you lose that. politics is not just about the national voter choice. there's a big dial-up emotions included in this. i think the air went out of the balloon to a certain degree for romney during those three days. does he have time to regen? of course. we are back in the campaign today and will be back at a fever pitch by monday night. look at where the candidates are going. that tells you where the race is really close. they are trying to get that extra point to win. you can do it if you finish up a campaign in a particular states, if the rally is good and everything clicks and you dominate the press in the final 12 hours to 15 hours, you might get an additional point or two out of the few remaining undecided. host: the first call comes from frank in burke, virginia. caller: thank you to c-span. i want to talk about the balance in

the race stands. in florida, mitt romney leads president obama according to real clear politics average of polls, when you break it down, it's central florida where the president needs a boost. along the interstate 4 corridor where the state's races are off and decided, likely voters are siding with mitt romney, 51%-45%. >> over the past several years when i've been critical. republicans for being too extreme at least in their tone or temperament, i've always said elections are won in the suburbs of philadelphia and the i-4 corridor. most florida insiders now thinking that florida's firmly in mitt romney's camp. the i-4 corridor, a six-point gap. and mark halperin, that's a fairly significant gap for an area that bill clinton carried in '96 and that president obama carried. >> if that poll is accurate, romney will win florida for sure, if he's going to carry i-4 by that big a margin. most indications are that he's going to win the state. however, you have to point out, the obama campaign says they're competing in all the battleground states, and they are. the president's one event today

for the candidates. the race right now is as tight as it comes. the latest poll has romney at 48%, president obama at 47%. so essentially we're talking about a dead heat. cnn political editor paul joins me now with more. he's live in pensacola, florida, one of the critical swing states in this election. mitt romney is headed your way today in hopes of winning over undecided voters there, paul. but how close is it politically in the sunshine state right now? >> reporter: it is very close in the sunshine state. in fact, take a look at this, christi. this is the most recent poll we did about a week ago. you can't get much closer among likely voters. mitt romney with a one-point edge, but that's all tied up in the sampling error. this is the first of three stops today for mitt romney across the state. he'll be campaigning with marco rubio, the popular freshman senator here in florida. we had this up on our website cnn.com. you can see how much attention florida is getting. both the candidates made well over 20 trips each here to the sunshine state since the start of the general election back in april.
